Some EMD news (11.08.2008) Union Pacific originally had 62 SD90MAC-H's, the V-265H-powered locomotives rated at 6000 hp. Their numbers were UP 8500-8561. UP 8500 and UP 8522-8561 were leased, and returned to the lessor upon lease expiration Dec. 2005-March 2006. The remaining locomotives, UP 8501-8521, were renumbered to UP 8911-8931 to vacate the numbers for new SD70ACe's being delivered. All 21 SD90MAC's were retired by 06.25.08 and will be scrapped. These locomotives were delivered between 1996 and 1999. Their last assignments were haulage of rock and aggregate trains in Texas, considered the last sort of assignment for locomotives, last duty before retirement and scrapping. It is worth mentioning that the GE-built 6000hp locomotives will have their prime mover replaced with a 4400hp engine, making them similar to the socalled convertibles, locomotives that were intended to receive 6000 hp engines when all initial problems were sorted out. UP has 80 locomotives of this type, UP 7500-7579. A similar conversion of the SD90MAC to SD90/43MAC has been ruled out due to complexity and cost. Jan Arne Rødland |

The number, 4141, reflects that George H W Bush was the 41st president of the US.

Wikipedia ”List of GM-EMD locomotives” The following is a list
of locomotives produced by the General Motors Electro-Motive Division (GM-EMD)
and its successor Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD). |
